Brainstorming topic for a roleplay idea I had. Inspired by the show Life After People. It's a lot more realistic than my usual ideas, but I like it.

I'll add some more stuff later.

Hashima Island, also known as Ghost Island, or more commonly Battleship Island, named so on account of its shape, literally looking like a Battleship piece. This old, abandoned concrete slab used to be the most densely populated area on earth, with about 83,500 people per kilometer over the whole island. After serving as a base for coal mining during World War II, it was shut down and abandoned in 1974 when petroleum became more popular.

OK, enough with the history lesson, let's get to the actual story now.

Travel to the island was forbidden until 2009, but was soon again banned after determining that the effort and cost of restoring and cleaning up the place to make it safe for people was too great. However, one family with history on the island dating back to the World War II times made the decision to stay. They took to hiding while the island was evacuated once more, and were blocked off from the rest of humanity with the final closing of the island in 2011. The young couple survived off the few plant species that thrived in the desolate place, and the fish that called the surrounding waters home. They quickly adapted to the harsh lifestyle of living on Hashima, and, although it was probably not the best environment to do so, eventually bore a child.

In total, the couple had two children, and passed all their knowledge onto the new generation. The small family lived in joyful solitude, enjoying each others company to the fullest. Sadly, six years after the birth of their second child, the father suffered trauma to the head after slipping down one of the Island's famous 'Stairways to Hell', called so because of their extreme steepness. Unable to receive any medical attention, he died that night from bleeding in his brain. The sudden loss shook the close knit family, but the strong mother refused to let her children dwell on it too long, and life went back to normal rather quickly.

About ten years later, give or take, the mother received a nasty puncture wound from the many rusting pieces of metal strewn across the island. She began to exhibit the classic symptoms of tetanus, including occasional muscular spasm. Again, unable to receive medical attention, she died a few months later, leaving her children all alone to fend for themselves.

It's 2030 now, and life is tough here on ol' Battleship, what new surprises will it bring?

Mmhmm, so this is my latest idea. I might not actually make it on this site, I'll probably use it on another of mine, but if you like it enough, I guess I could set one up here too.

But right now I need you guys's help. Besides shipwreck, can you think of any other ways to end up on a nice little island like Hasima? Reasonable ways please.

I'm also open to any other suggestions. Maybe a new title? I'm not a big fan of the one I gave it. Battleship is kinda boring, don't you think?
